Three policemen in Uttar Pradesh's Bhadohi district have been booked for allegedly molesting girls in a park, officials said on Tuesday.
The three constables - Kanhaiya Yadav, Valender Yadav and Vinod Upadhyay - on Monday molested two girls in a park near a bus stand in the Gopiganj area of Bhadohi town. The constables also manhandled some of the local residents, who came to rescue the girls after hearing their cries for help, they added.
"Acting on the complaint lodged by the girls, we have registered a case against the three constables," district police chief Ashutosh Kumar told reporters in Bhadohi.
An inquiry has been initiated against the three policemen, who may also be suspended and dismissed from service if found guilty, added Kumar.
The three constables have been asked to stay away from their work till the completion of the inquiry.
Bhadohi is about 250 km from Lucknow.
