Nine persons, including three security personnel and two terrorists of Pakistan-based Lashker-e-Toiba outfit, were killed in Jammu and Kashmir where an ultra of Jaish-e-Mohammad was arrested.

Two police personnel, head constable Mohammad Yasin and constable Nazir Ahmad Shah, were killed when terrorists fired at a road opening party at Vicharnag on the outskirts of the city on Thursday morning, a police spokesman said.

Terrorists took away one AK rifle of the deceased constable while fleeing, the spokesman said, adding a hunt was on to nab ultras involved in the attack for which terrorist outfit Al-Mansoorian claimed responsibility.

Lashkar terrorist Abu Khatiz Hashmi and a security personnel were killed and another jawan injured in a gun battle during search operations at Narian Dhok in Thanamandi sector of Rajouri district on Thursday, the spokesman said.

He said a pistol; five rounds and three hand grenades were recovered from the deceased terrorist.

In another encounter, the spokesman said security forces shot dead another LeT terrorist Irshad Ahmad alias Abu Khasha, a resident of Nowa-Patchi, at Hunzal in Marwah sector of Doda district last night. An AK rifle, two magazines, 20 rounds and a grenade were recovered from him.

Terrorists fired at the house of village defence committee member Mohammad Farooq at Dhandi-Mahore in Udhampur district last night, killing his wife Dilshad Begum.

However, residents of the village staged a massive demonstration alleging that Ganai was killed by the troops of Rashtriya Rifles when he was coming back to his home from his shop on Wednesday night.

Rejecting the allegations, a defence spokesman said investigations have revealed that the barber had been abducted and later killed by terrorists. Two empty fire cases of an AK rifle were recovered near the scene of the murder, he added.

Mir Hussain alias Kalia, a former Hizbul Mujahideen militant, was shot dead by ultras near his house at Bazipora village in Baramulla district on Thursday afternoon, the spokesman said, adding a throat-slit body of one Waris Hussain Shah was recovered from his Jabra-Gursai village in Mendhar sector of Poonch district.

Shah alongwith Nazir Hussain was kidnapped by terrorists from their houses on Wednesday night, the spokesman said, adding while Shah was brutally killed by ultras, his neighbour was beaten mercilessly and later set free.

In a major breakthrough, police arrested a Jaish terrorist from Srinagar and recovered a rifle grenade, a remote control, a detonator and three meters of cordex wire from him, he said.

The arrest assumes significance as the outfit carried a number of grenade attacks in downtown Srinagar last month, the spokesman said, adding the captured terrorist was being interrogated.
