The three school-going girls of village Murmadi in Bhandara district were raped and murdered before their bodies were thrown in a well, this became clear in the post mortem report that the police got late on Monday night.
Three sisters, aged girls, 11, 9 and and 6 of Murmadi village near Lakhni, some 150 kms from here were missing from their school on February 14. Later their bodies were found in a well at the village on February 16.
"I am totally shocked and pained by the incident," said union heavy industries minister Praful Patel, who represents the area said.
Patel visited the village on Tuesday and met the grieving mother.
The union minister has taken up the matter with chief minister for special financial aid to the widow and with state home minister R R Patil for speedy investigation and fast track trial of the culprits, who are yet to be identified. Even as Lakhni police station in-charge Prakash Munde was placed under suspension on Tuesday evening.
The district police have formed five teams to search the culprits involved in the heinous crime and announced Rs 50,000 reward for anyone giving information about them.
The informant’s name will be kept secret, said special IGP Rajendra Singh, who visited the police station. The Lakhani police have registered offences under Section 376,302 and 201 of IPC against unidentified persons in the case.
Patel, during his brief halt here on way to his return to Delhi, said that the police station in-charge Munde had handled the case indifferently as he did not act on the complaint of the family on February 14 that three girls were missing.
Later on February 16, bodies of the three were found in a well at a village three km away from Murmadi. The post mortem report clearly mentions that the girls were raped and were also subjected to unnatural sexual abuse, said Rajendra Singh.
Meanwhile, in Mumbai home minister RR Patil ordered suspension of Lakhani police station officer Munde for dereliction of duties.
