A tiger on the prowl in the jungles and sugarcane fields in Faizabad has claimed another life, the fourth in the district.
Sarju (50), a resident of Surajpur village near Rampur Janak forest reserve in Rudauli tehsil had gone into the fields to cut woods on Saturday but did not return, the locals said. The villagers set off in search of him this morning and found his half-eaten body.
"We also found Sarju's axe, Lathi and quilt near his body," Shyam Laal, a resident of Surajpur said. "It appears from the injury marks and the splattered blood that Sarju was killed not very long ago," Faizabad district forest officer OP Singh said.
Singh confirmed that Sarju fell prey to the same tiger, which had claimed two other lives in Pilibhit and one in Barabanki in recent months.
