Hours after Amar Singh and two former BJP MPs were arrested and sent to Tihar Jail, J&K chief minister Omar Abdullah tweeted, “what would be the symbol of Tihar jail inmates if they set up their own political party.” Arteev Sharma reports.

Hours after the Rajya Sabha MP and former Samajwadi Party leader Amar Singh and two former BJP MPs were arrested and sent to Tihar jail in the cash-for-votes scam, Jammu and Kashmir chief minister Omar Abdullah sarcastically asked, “what would be the symbol of Tihar Jail inmates if they set up their own political party.”

“If Tihar Jail inmates set up their own political party I wonder what would the symbol would be,” Omar wrote on micro-blogging site Twitter.

At present, former Commonwealth Games chief Suresh Kalmadi, DMK Rajya Sabha MP Kanimozhi, who is the daughter of DMK chief Karunanidhi and former communications minister A Raja are lodged in Tihar. A Raja and Kanimozhi were arrested in connection with India’s largest swindle, the 2G scam.

Besides, a host of corporate bigwigs are also languishing in the said jail.

Amar Singh became the latest high profile politician to be sent to Tihar Jail. He was sent to judicial custody for alleged involvement in the attempt to bribe MPs ahead of the July 2008 Parliament trust vote.

Omar, in one of his recent tweets on Parliament attack convict Afzal Guru had stirred political storm in the country.

“If J&K assembly had passed a resolution similar to the Tamil Nadu one for Afzal Guru would the reaction have been as muted? I think not,” he had tweeted.

He is the youngest chief minister of the country and has 52,916 followers on Twitter.
