To convert, girls move HC

india Updated: Nov 17, 2007 02:37 IST

The issue of religious conversion came into sharp focus once again with four girls from a Tamil Nadu town approaching the High Court permitting them to convert to Islam.

“We were impressed by the Islamic way of living due to our close interaction with Muslims in our area and we decided to covert voluntarily.” explained Lokeswari (now Sumaiya).

The local Hindu Munnani had made their conversion an issue alleging through posters that they had been given inducements by way of jobs and money by their doctor employer Abdul Razack. “When our conversion is voluntary how can outsiders try to intimidate us to change our minds?” asked Ambika alias Afrida.
