More than a week after the murder of a toll collection worker at the Delhi-Gurgaon Expressway, the police on Friday claimed to have traced the broken weapon used in the crime.

According to the police, the family members of the main accused, Vijay Veer, broke the pistol and buried it on the premises of the gym of Manjeet Singh.

Both Vijay Veer and Manjeet were arrested after toll attendant Umeshkant Pandey was shot dead on September 23.

On Thursday, the district court sent them to 14-day judicial custody, after the police failed to produce the weapon of offence.

"Vijay gave the pistol to Manjeet after committing the crime. He hid it on his gym compound at Shikohpur village. Later, Vijay Veer's family members broke the gun with stones," said a senior police official.

Vijay Veer's brother Himesh and his brother-in-law broke the gun with stones and then buried it on the ground, said Maheshwar Dayal, DCP, east, Gurgaon. The two have already been booked for destroying evidences.
