It is lonely at the top, especially if you are a female actor. Deepika Padukone gave four spectacular back-to-back hits this year to make to the numero uno position, relegating the Khans and Roshans to also rans.
Here are the other A-listers who impressed this year.
Deepika Padukone: Deepika has arrived as a number one performer, beating not only her arch rivals (Priyanka, Katrina and Kareena), but also moving ahead of Khans in terms of success of her movies.
Hrithik Roshan: His double role as Dr Rohit Mehra and superhero Krrish captured the fancy of one and all. No surprise then that the film went on to enter Rs 200 cr club. The actor has been consistently delivering at least one hit a year. From Koi... Mil Gaya, Lakshya, Krrish, Dhoom 2, Jodhaa Akbar, Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara, Agneepath, to Krrish 3, Hrithik has a track record to reckon with.
Shah Rukh Khan: Don't underestimate the power of King Khan. SRK has the capability of rising, even after a big fall. Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna (2006) was his last flop. Be it Don, Chak De! India, Om Shanti Om, Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi, My Name Is Khan, Ra.One, Don 2, Jab Tak Hai Jaan, the actor has moderate to super successes in the past eight years. In 2013, the superstar entered the elite club of Rs 200 cr.
Ranveer Singh: The lover boy of Band Baaja Baaraat and Ladies Vs Ricky Bahl evolved into a nuanced performer this year with Vikramaditya Motawane's Lootera. He also discovered an angry young man in him with Ram-leela. Both the films translated into a box office success (Lootera was a semi-hit), making Ranveer one of the best performers of the year.
Farhan Akhtar: The man can direct a film, produce a film, sing in a film, act in a film and now, Farhan Akhtar can also run in a film. As Milkha Singh in Bhaag Milkha Bhaag, he ran away with accolades, critical appreciation and popular success. The film made it to Rs 100 crore club and opened the doors with sport biopics which are not cricket.
John Abraham: The actor did a commendable job not only as a producer of Madras Cafe but also as an actor. The film got him Pride of the Nation award. He was also part of an ensemble cast in one of the top grossers of the year - Race 2.
Sushant Singh Rajput: One of the most promising newcomers of the year, Sushant Singh Rajput delivered stellar performances in both Kai Po Che and Shuddh Desi Romance. Appreciated by critics and loved by the audiences, the former television actor of Pavitra Rishta fame has been signed for Shekhar Kapur's Paani and will also be seen in Detective Byomkesh Bakshi.
Sonakshi Sinha: Though the year was not as big for Sonakshi as the previous year (she delivered two 100-cr films Son of Sardaar and Dabangg 2), the actor managed to score one hit towards the end -- R...Rajkumar. With Lootera, she won the critical appreciation that was evading her so far. Her films Once Upon A Time In Mumbaai Dobaara and Bullett Raja disappointed.
Dhanush: The Kolaveri Di boy's Bollywood debut in Raanjhana, directed by Anand L Rai, touched audience's hearts for its sheer innocence and raw talent. The Tamil cinema star, who also won the National Film Award for Best Actor for the movie Aadukalam (2011), carried the entire film on his shoulders.
Shraddha Kapoor: The actress' portrayal of Arohi Keshav Shirke in Aashiqui 2 was loved by the audiences. The low-budget movie went on to enter Rs 100 cr club in over 11-week run. Shraddha's cameo appearance in Gori Tere Pyaar Mein was also noticed.
