Top LeT militant shot dead

The encounter broke out during a search operation launched by police with the assistance of CRPF at Theed-Harwan village, a spokesman said.

A self-styled district commander of Lashkar-e-Toiba outfit was killed and two others injured in an encounter with police in Srinagar.

The encounter broke out during a search operation launched by police with the assistance of CRPF troops at Theed-Harwan village, 22 kms from here, a police spokesman said.

The slain militant was identified as Abu Niseer alias Zakira, self styled district commander of LET outfit. Another militant and head constable of CRPF Arun Susher of 122 battalion were injured in the firefight, the spokesman said.

He said search for the injured militant was still in progress.The injured CRPF personnel, who received bullet wounds on his thighs, was rushed to base hospital where he was operated upon, the spokesman said adding he was declared out of danger.
