india Updated: Jul 21, 2009 18:40 IST

Water inundated low-lying areas in the district as torrential rains continue to lash it since early hours of the day, officials said.

All the schools and markets remained closed due to rains that forced people to remain indoors.

The incessant rains have delinked teshil and villages from district headquarters, officials said adding that district's road links to Bhopal, Betul, Khandwa and Indore too remained cut off.

River Narmada and Ajanal were flowing above the danger mark, with Ajanal crossing the red mark by five foot, they said.

Electricity supply to large parts of the district has also been disrupted, they said.

Harda has recorded 74.9 mm rainfall in last 24 hours (8.30 am July 20 to 8.30 am July 21), Met official in Bhopal, said.

Harda Collector Renu Pant said that no casualty has been reported from any part of the district so far, adding that the people in the low-lying areas have been asked to go to safer places.

She said she was assessing the situation and emergency services have been put in place.
