Defending champions, Indian Railways, have been drawn in Group A along with Maharashtra and Kerala in the 2nd Hockey India Senior women's national championship to be held here from October 14-23.
As many as 27 of HI's member units have confirmed their participation in the event, which will be played on a league-cum-knockout basis.
The inaugural match will be between Odisha and Tamil Nadu.
Lakshya wins title
New Delhi: Young shuttler Lakshya Sen defeated MS Rizal to win the Astec Open badminton championship in Jakarta on Saturday.
11-year-old Lakshya won the title 21-18, 21-7. Meanwhile in China, his elder brother, Chirag Sen, lost in the semifinal of the Asian Youth Championship.
His fine run in the tournament ended with a 21-14, 12-21, 13-21 loss to China's Chen Jinlin in the U-15 category.
In doubles, Rahul Yadav and Chirag gave a tough fight to Tan Jia Wei and Ooi Zi Heng of Malaysia but lost 22-20, 17-21, 25-27.
New Delhi: Leading Indian and foreign teams are expected to compete in the 23rd edition of the Lal Bahadur Shastri men's hockey tournament beginning on November 27, at the Shivaji Stadium. Pakistan and Malaysia are expected to field a team each in the eight-day competition.
