A traffic police assistant sub-inspector was shot at by three bike-borne youths in Gurgaon Sector 29 on Monday.

The incident took place near Signature Tower when ASI Narendra Singh was challaning violators. He saw three youths on a black Pulsar motorcycle coming from the wrong side. None of them was wearing a helmet.

When Singh signalled them to stop, they slowed but soon took out a gun and open fire at him, police said.

The assailants fired five rounds at him of which three hit the officer. Singh was rushed to nearby private hospital, where he is undergoing treatment.

Maheshwar Dayal, joint commissioner of police, said, “Incidents of firing are increasing in the city. Even the policemen on duty are not safe. We are investigating the incident.”

Last year, a traffic police officer was run over by a truck when he cautioned the driver to stop for checking near Sirhol Toll Plaza on the Gurgaon Expressway.
