THE OPERATION of star buses remained suspended for about seven hours on Friday as bus operators associated with the Bhopal City Link Limited (BCLL) staged an agitation in protest against alleged harassment by the traffic police. The agitation ended after intervention of senior officials.
The operators charged that their employees were being harassed unnecessarily in order to protect the minibus operators. They alleged that the traffic police didn’t allow them to stay at the bus stops. They said that they had lodged over 40 complaints related to harassment and beating with the police but no action had been taken to protect them.
However, the agitation ended after the intervention of the district collector S K Mishra and additional SP G K Pathak. They assured the operators and their employees that they would be given protection.
The mini bus operators have been opposing the introduction of star buses in the City. At present, 39 star buses are being run on 11 routes. The district collector is executive director of the BCLL, a company floated with the financial help of Bhopal Municipal Corporation and Bhopal Development Authority.
