The trial of Saddam Hussein and seven co-defendants for crimes against humanity resumed on Tuesday without former intelligence head Barzan al-Tikriti who was thrown out the day before.

"We have decided to exclude Barzan from today's session because of his repeated violations of the court rules," said presiding Judge Rauf Abdel Rahman at the 34th session.

The judge also warned defence attorneys against making speeches, saying the focus should be on continued defence witness testimony.

"I want to tell the defence attorneys that we are not going to listen to their endless rhetoric," he said. "The session is to present their witnesses. They have to choose one of the options -- either rhetoric or witnesses."

The judge added that Tuesday would be the final day for defense witness testimony.

Defense attorneys repeatedly protested on Monday that the trial over the killing of 148 Shiites from the village of Dujail in the 1980s was unfair.
