In retaliation to BJP president Amit Shah’s speech against Trinamool Congress’ rule, Mamata Banerjee’s nephew and TMC MP, Abhishek Banerjee launched a scathing attack on the saffron party on Monday.

“Credentials of TMC block presidents are 100 times better than BJP national president,” said Banerjee, adding that BJP stood for Bharatiya Joker Party. He also made some personal jibes on Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s frequent change of clothes, lifestyle and even Shah’s credentials, a day after the BJP president’s rally in the heart of Kolkata.

“Who called for ‘poriborton’ (change) at BJP rally yesterday? Rahul Sinha, who can’t even win even a corporation election?” said Banerjee.

Banerjee was also cheeky in his thanks to Shah for his visit. “It is good for Bengal whenever you come here,” said Banerjee, adding that Nayana Bandopadhyay won the by-election with a margin of more than 15,000 votes after Shah organised a meeting in central Kolkata in September.

Banerjee was also critical of Modi, “Our PM flies in private jets, goes abroad and changes wardrobe frequently. Mamata Banerjee still lives in a small house, wears hawai chappal and wears a tant saree worth `300 only.”

He also alleged that the Modi government had done nothing for Bengal in six months. “They have slashed allocations for the state. Those who come to Bengal as migratory birds, address a rally and go back to Delhi will never win here,” Banerjee added.

Reacting to Banerjee’s comments, state BJP president, Rahul Sinha said, “There can’t be any comparison between the foreign visits by the PM and Mamata Banerjee. While Modiji’s visit raises our honour, Mamata Banerjee’s visit to Singapore was a sheer waste of money.”
