After making headlines for his inflammatory speeches ahead of panchayat elections, Trinamool Congress leader from Birbhum Anubrata Mondal is at it again and this time he has allegedly threatened to cut off Congress supporters’ hands.

Trinamool Congress MP Mukul Roy is scheduled to visit Katwa to address a public rally on November 9. As a result, the party has put up hoardings and party flags across the town, some of which have allegedly been pulled down by Congress supporters.

When asked about his reaction, Anubrata Mondal said, “We will not tolerate such activities. We’ll cut off the hands of Congress supporters if they try to do this again.”

Local Congress MLA Rabindranath Chatterjee on Thursday told HT, “I have informed the matter to our state leadership.

I have also verbally informed and complained against Mondal to additional SP [rural]. Our supporters are feeling insecure.”

PCC president Pradip Bhattacharya said, “When a party leader abuses and threatens opposition parties, he gains respect in the eyes of senior leaders. This is the true image of Trinamool Congress. We will lodge a complaint with the state election commission on Friday against Mondal. Such statements by TMC leaders are triggering fear among our supporters and party workers ahead of the upcoming municipal polls. This has to be reined in.”

This is not the first time that Mondal has been caught on a wrong foot for hate speeches. Ahead of panchayat elections, on June 2, at a party meeting in Rampurhat, he had asked his partymen not to allow any CPI(M) and Congress candidates to file nomination. And again on July 11, he had used offensive language and described Congress as “the son of a beggar; they lack class.”

He has been a habitual offender when it comes to making headlines for all the wrong reasons. On July 17, in presence of agriculture minister Malay Ghatak and fisheries minister Chandranath Singha, Mondal asked his partymen to not vote for any independent candidate.

“Kono nirdol prarthi ke vote deben na. jodi kono nirdol prarthi humki day, tahole tar bari guriye din - puriye din… kono prosason jodi nirdol prathider sahajjo kore tobe sei police ke bomb marun, ami bolchi bomb marte… (Don’t vote for any independent candidate. If any of them threaten you, demolish his house or set it on fire… And if administration helps them, hurl bombs on those policemen, I’m asking you to do so..)”
