What should have been a happy occasion turned into a tragedy when seven people, including four children, were crushed to death by a truck on Wednesday.
The family of nine was on their way to Muradnagar in UP for a religious ceremony when the mishap occurred in Ballab-garh near Faridabad, police said. The Maruti van they were travelling in developed a problem and stopped on the dilapidated road, which had been worsened by the recent rains.
Ram Charan, his son Roop Singh and the driver got out to push the van, when a truck loaded with cement sheets lost balance and fell on the van, crushing all seven people inside, including Charan's wife and four-year-old grandson.
The van was smashed so badly that rescuers had to cut through the iron body to recover the bodies, police said.
