In a tragic incident, a three-wheeler was crushed between a truck and a canter (mini truck), leaving the driver and the passenger, an NSG commando, dead on the Gurgaon Expressway on Tuesday night.

According to the police, a speeding canter hit the autorickshaw from behind, pushed it for nearly 40 metres and rammed it into a parked truck near the Hero Honda Chowk.

Due to the impact of the collision, the auto was sandwiched between the two heavy vehicles.

The deceased have been identified as 32-year-old NSG commando Nagesh and auto driver Pushpendra (22).

“A native of Andhra Pradesh, Nagesh was posted in Manesar. Pushpendra was from Uttar Pradesh. The accident took place around 2.30am when the victims were on their way to Gurgaon from Manesar,” said a police official.

The canter driver was coming at a high speed and could not spot the auto. Dense fog further reduced visibility and the auto was dragged ahead to hit another stationary truck.

“We are investigating if the truck was parked illegally on the expressway and if found guilty, action will be taken against the operator as well,” said Maheshwar Dayal, DCP (east), Gurgaon. On the other hand, a spokesperson of the expressway operator firm, Delhi-Gurgaon Super Connectivity Ltd, said they had spotted the truck and taken all safety measures as the truck was loaded with stone dust and its front tyre was punctured.

The accused canter driver is absconding after the incident and police have registered a case against him.
