Apropos of Manoj Joshi’s report Tussle for Tawang on, experts look for way out (January 19), the tussle is a product of Chinese illegal occupation of Tibet. The McMahon line set up by the British demarcated Tibet from India and China. To counter the Chinese claim, India and the Dalai Lama should insist that China respect the McMahon Line as a permanent solution to the Tibet issue and the border between India and China.
Living in glass houses
Why do we Indians feel so insulted when racist comments are made against Shilpa Shetty in ‘Big Brother’? The caste system in our country is an excellent synonym for racism. Is there a society on earth that practises untouchability, where innocent people are killed and women raped because some foolish caste logic dictates they are inferior? Before pointing fingers at others, we should look within ourselves. The politicians tried to sabotage the efforts of Dalits to define ‘casteism’ as ‘racism’ at the recent UN International Racism conference. What a shame for our country.
And there goes the award
The report Pravasi awards rigged, allege overseas Indians (January 18) shows there’s always partiality in presenting the awards. The High Commissioner must have a list of those community workers who dedicated their time to present Indian values abroad. Indian officials at embassies should recommend to the President and the Prime Minister, and let them get more information from their office staff.
I have won the Aerospace Communications award and made contributions to advanced wireless technology and satellite payload, but my name is nowhere on the Award Committee’s radar screen. I love both India and the US, and for doing good I have no vested interest.
