Twenty killed in thunderstorm in UP

Atleast 20 persons were killed and over three-dozen injured in Uttar Pradesh during thunderstorm in the last 24 hours, official sources said in Lucknow on Friday.

While five persons were killed in rural area of Kanpur, four persons each were killed in Firozabad and Farukhabad, two persons each in Hathras and Raebareli, one each in Jalaun, Etawah and Lucknow due to felling of trees and electric and telephone poles, they said.

Over three-dozen people were injured in these incidents, they said.

In Lucknow, a number of trees were uprooted due to the thunderstorm creating traffic problems at some places. While an elderly man died due to felling of a tree in rural area of the city.

According to the MET department, there is a possibility of rain and storm in the next 24 hours.
