Two ABVP leaders, including Vimal Tomar, who was shown on TV channels threatening a professor, on Wednesday surrendered in connection with the violence during college elections when another professor died after allegedly being manhandled.

Tomar, Madhya Pradesh unit ABVP secretary and its president Shashiranjan Akela, surrendered before the police in a case relating to manhandling and throwing mud at Prof ML Nath during the election on August 26.

Akela and Tomar, who were wanted in the case, surrendered before the Dewas Gate police, Inspector General of Police Anil Kumar said. Tomar was shown by TV channels abusing and threatening Nath during the election, which was cancelled.

Five others were earlier arrested by the police in connection with the attack on Nath and were released on bail, he added.

Nath and his two colleagues were mobbed by unruly students during the student union elections. His colleague HS Sabharwal died after an attack on him.
