Two accidents in four hours

In separate accidents, a a 77-year old man was killed by a speeding car on Sion-Trombay Road on Saturday night, while a 22-year-old man was killed in an accident on the Western Express Highway on Sunday.

In the first case, M. Khurana, a Govandi resident was hit by a speeding car when he was crossing the road. Khurana was rushed to Shatabdi hospital in Mankhurd but was declared dead on arrival.

Balasaheb Panchundkar, Senior Police Inspector, Chembur police station said that the driver Ajay Natrajan (29) accompanied the family to take the victim to the hospital. He has been arrested for rash and negligent driving.

In the second instance, Vikas Sawant (32) lost control of his Tata Sumo, which crashed into five parked auto-rickshaws. Rickshaw driver K. Prasad was rushed to Cooper Hospital but died before admission. Two other rickshaw drivers were injured.

“The driver fled but we traced him to his Jogeshwari residence and arrested him,” said Harvinder Kaur Wariach, Assistant Commissioner of Police, Vile Parle police station. Sawant was returning home after dropping a passenger, and had dozed off at the wheel, the police said.
