Two Afghans have been arrested with 740 gm heroin worth R1.75 crore, police said on Saturday.
The culprits have been identified as Obaidullah, 50, and his associate Saeyed Abdullah, 22, both of whom hail from Kandahar in Afghanistan, said P Karunakaran, DCP (northwest).
"On June 27, an informer told officers at the Mukherjee Nagar police station that two Afghan nationals would deliver fine quality heroin to a Nigerian at the Mukherjee Nagar Bandh," said DCP Karunakaran.
Acting on the tip off, the police nabbed the duo at 9:50pm. They were walking to the area from the Nirankari Colony side and were overpowered by the raiding party after a chase. "After the due compliance of guidelines of NDPS Act, search of both the accused persons was made and 740 grams fine quality heroin was recovered," Karunakaran said.
The police claimed both the men performed odd jobs back home and had reached the Capital between June 23 and 26 to supply heroin to their Nigerian contacts in the city.
