The crime branch of Varanasi police arrested two persons on Thursday for giving shelter to Indradev Singh, the main accused in the sensational murder of Mafioso Brijesh Singh’s cousin.

Besides, Satish Singh, an accused in the murder case, surrendered before the special judge in Ghazipur district during the day.

Those arrested have been identified as Manish Kumar Singh, native of Jagdishpur village under Saidpur police station, Ghazipur, and Mithilesh Singh, also a native of Ghazipur. Cops also recovered a car without a number plate, two .315 bore rifles, three double barrel guns, four single barrel guns and 10 live cartridges of .12 bore from the vehicle.

The Varanasi police got information that Manish Kumar Singh and Mithilesh Singh had given shelter to Indradev Singh at their residence in Ghazipur. Following the tip-off, the crime branch of the Varanasi police carried out a raid at the residences of Manish Kumar Singh and Mithilesh Singh.

Cops got information that both the persons had l eft Ghazipur by a car a few minutes ago.

The cops managed to track the vehicle during a checking drive and arrested both the persons and recovered firearms.

Meanwhile, Satish Singh, who surrendered before the special judge in Ghazipur, had come out of the prison only recently after he got bail in a 2012 murder case.

Dodging the Varanasi and Ghazipur police and the STF, Satish surrendered in the morning and forced his ‘sureties’ to get their liabilities discharged. The judge sent Satish to court in judicial custody.

Satish Singh is a native of Mudiar village under Saidpur block of Ghazipur district. The late Maknu Singh, Satish’s father, was a close confidant of Mau MLA Mukthar Ansari.

Now, the Varanasi police have initiated steps to take Satish Singh on remand.

In another major development, Varanasi police carried out a raid at the residence of Atul Singh, a native of Veerapur village under Bhawarkol police station, Ghazipur, on Thursday.

Cops quizzed several family members, including gram pradhan Pawan Singh, elder brother of Atul Singh. They took into custody Bharat Singh, father of Atul Singh, and brought him to Varanasi for interrogation.

Chandrakant Singh, station officer, Bhawarkol, confirmed the arrest of Bharat Singh.

Atul has a long criminal background. He is involved in contracts of the PWD and other government departments. Atul is one of the main rivals of Brijesh Singh and is closely associated with the Mukhtar Ansari gang.
