Two Congress workers were killed by armed assailants in Bathinda on Friday, sources said.
According to Lachman Singh and Baljeet Singh, they were coming back to their village along with their deceased brothers Hargobind Singh (32) and Swarn Singh (27) when the accused allegedly from SAD gheraod them and attacked them with sharp edged weapons.
Even as Lachman Singh and Baljeet Singh managed to escape, the assailants attacked Hargobind and Swarn, killing the former on the spot and the latter succumbed to his injuries in the hospital, the brothers said.
The duo also alleged that police was trying to give the murders, the shape of an accident and was not registering the case.
The district police chief, DSP Surinderpal Singh said the statements of the concerned persons had been recorded and they were investigating into the matter and would register the case after thorough investigation.
Meanwhile, representatives of the village met the Deputy Commissioner of Police Rahul Tiwari who assured them of registration of case against the accused.
