Two CPI(M) men killed by Maoists

Suspected Maoists on Wednesday shot dead a worker and a supporter of the CPI(M) in separate incidents in West Midnapore district, police said.

While a local committee member Tapan Dolui (48) was killed in Lalgarh area, party supporter Salim Khan (45) was murdered in Binpur.

Dolui, a member of CPI(M)'s Belatikri local committee, was shot several times by four men while he was working in the field, the sources said. A member of Binpur block Krishak Sabha, CPI(M)'s peasant wing, Douli died on the spot.

The attackers fled in motorbikes, the sources said adding Dolui's house was ransacked by Maoists in June last year and he was in hiding for a month at that time.

In the other incident, Khan was accosted by motorcycle borne attackers at Betkundri in Binpur police station while he was returning home from Jhargram town on a cycle.

The assailants sprayed bullets at Khan, owner of a chicken shop, and he died instantaneously, the sources said.

The incident occurred about 3 km from Jhargram town.
