Relatives of Munish Dutta, a 42-year-old executive working with a BPO firm who went missing on Saturday, fear that he has been kidnapped.

Dutta, a resident of Sector 47, did not return home after he left his office in Udyog Vihar.

While the police have registered a missing complaint, family members fear it to be a case of abduction as his mobile phone is ringing but no one is answering it. Elder brother Rajnish Dutta said Munish had left for work on Saturday morning as usual but did not return.

“Generally, he would reach home by 7.30pm. When he did not return by 9pm on Saturday, we raised an alarm. He used public transport since he had some problem in his left leg,” he added.

Inderjeet Singh, investigating officer and SHO of the Sadar police station, said, “We are investigating the matter but it would be too early to draw any conclusion. According to preliminary investigation, we have come to know that Munish was mentally disturbed. Also, the day he went missing, he had issued a cheque to his mother worth all the money he had in his account. But still we cannot say anything concrete.”

However, Munish’s family members beg to differ. “My brother was absolutely fine. A person who is mentally disturbed cannot work in a BPO or anywhere else,” Rajnish said.

“My brother issued a cheque of Rs 50, 000 and I don’t think that it was such a big amount. A son can indeed give some money to his parents.”
