Two people lost their lives and at-least 25 others were injured on Friday when a passenger bus skidded off road and fell into a farmland in central Kashmir.
Eyewitnesses and officials said that the driver of a passenger vehicle lost control near Hushru village in central Kashmir’s Budgam district and skidded off into nearby paddy fields.
A government spokesman said that two residents of the district Ghulam Mohammad Najar and Ghulan Hassan Malik were killed instantly and 25 injured passengers were referred to various hospitals of the valley.
“The condition of 12 passengers is stated to be critical,” the official said.
Had the fall been steep, there were chances of more deaths, eyewitnesses said.
The bus was on its way to the main market of Chadoora in the same district as rains after a long dry spell made roads slippery and more prone to mishaps.
Local MLA and Minister of Finance, Abdul Rahim Rather expressed his grief over the tragic traffic accident. Rather, currently on a two-days official visit to Delhi, directed the hospital authorities to provide adequate medi-care facilities to the injured passengers.
