Two separatist guerrillas were killed by security forces in Jammu and Kashmir's Shopian district on Monday.
A police officer told IANS in Srinagar that troops of 62 Rashtriya Rifles and the Special Operations Group (SOG) of the local police surrounded a house in Chatergam village, 57 kms south of the summer capital Srinagar, on Monday following information that guerrillas were hiding there.
"When the surrounding troops asked the militants to surrender, they opened fire from automatic guns at the troops resulting in an encounter that lasted for nearly two hours.
"Two militants of the Al Badr group identified as Gulzar Ahmad Chopan and Abid were killed in the gunfight. The security forces did not sustain any casualty in the operation," the officer said.
