Army shot dead two terrorists at Chak Chilan in south Kashmir's Shopian quarter, early on Saturday. One of the slain terrorists is stated to be the district commander of Harkat-ul-Mujahideen outfit.
One civilian was also killed in the shootout.
Defence spokesperson Lt Col AK Mathur said that the troops, on specific information, laid siege around the village early in the morning to flush out a group of terrorists hiding in the village. He said that the terrorists opened fire and attempted to broke the cordon. "Troops retaliated and killed two terrorists", he said.
The spokesperson said that the dead terrorists included a top commander of Harakat-ul-Mujahideen. He was identified as Noor Khan alias Abu Mawiya alias Bangla Deshi, district commander of the outfit. He said that the identity of another terrorist was yet to be ascertained.
One civilian Nazir Ahmad Shah was also killed in the shootout. The spokesperson said that the civilian was killed in the firing by terrorists. The siege around the village was on.
