Police claim to have solved the murder case of retired teacher Nargis Hazi, 61, with the arrest of her relative and his accomplice, who dumped her body at Dayalachak in Kathua district.

Police said the accused Rahat Hafiz, resident of Trikuta Nagar, borrowed `18 lakh as an advance from the victim, who used to receive money from her son working in Dubai, on the pretext of finding her a new house.

However, when the accused failed to buy her a new house for a long time and Hazi started pressurising him, and he hatched a plan to murder her.

Police said that on December 11, Rahat took the victim in his car on the pretext of taking her for a medical check-up, and he and his accomplice gave her an overdose of sleeping pills, which may have led to her death. "The exact cause will be established after the autopsy," a police spokesperson added.

A missing report of the victim was filed at Peer Mitha police station on December 13, and police established that Rahat Hafiz and his associate, Mian Sohail of Rajbagh (Kathua), had kidnapped the victim.

Police claimed that the accused confessed to their crime and the body was recovered based on the information given by them.
