Under the joint operation of Uddhamsinghnagar police and Terai West Forest Division, 2 fresh leopard skins were seized from Doraha barrier of the district on Saturday. Two people were arrested in this regard.
According to the forest department, sources informed them about animal part trading. The officials came to know that some people would cross Doraha barrier with leopard skins. Realising the sensitivity of the matter, forest department immediately contacted police administration for their help.
Early in the morning, rigorous checking was done at the barrier. The police found two suspects carrying sacks. They stopped them and checked them thoroughly. They recovered two fresh leopard skins. Both the accused were arrested on the spot.
Speaking to Hindustan Times, PK Patro division forest officer Terai West Forest Division said, “Two people were arrested namely Mahak Singh Chauhan and Suresh Singh Chauhan both residents of Champawat. They were carrying two fresh leopard skins. The police has taken them into custody and is interrogating them.”
Patro added that both skins were fresh. He said that one of them was slightly degraded. However, the other one was clean.
