The Gujarat police on Tuesday arrested two people from Kotarpur village close to Ahmedabad international airport and seized counterfeit currency with the face value of Rs.301,500.

The Ahmedabad crime branch received a tip-off that a man from Rajasthan would be coming on Tuesday morning to Kotarpur village with their counterfeit currency. A police team kept watch on the spot and arrested two men when the delivery was being made.

One of them was identified as Suresh Mali of Bhinmal village of Jalore district of Rajasthan and 101 fake notes of Rs.1,000 denomination and 200 of Rs.500 denomination were seized from him. The other was Deepak Lalabhai Rabari alias Dungar, 23, of Antarsuba village in Sabarkantha district of Gujarat.

The 201 fake notes of Rs.500 denomination given by Mali to Rabari were also seized.

Police said that both Mali and Rabari had joined hands with one Mithalal alias Thakur Mali alias Mukesh to circulate fake notes. Mali had offered Rabari fake notes with a face value of Rs.100,000 for Rs.18,000, but the latter wanted Rs.300,000 and was willing to pay Rs.36,000 for them.

Mithalal is said to have helped Mali in procuring the fake notes. The police have launched a hunt for him and others involved in the crime.
