Two persons, including a police constable, have been arrested for allegedly robbing Rs 4,500 from a trader at Pechiamman Paditurai in Madurai, police said.

Two persons, including a police constable, have been arrested for allegedly robbing Rs 4,500 from a trader at Pechiamman Paditurai in Madurai, police said.

Police said, Hyderali(58), the trader, was waylaid by the constable Pandi (33), attached to the Law and Order wing of Tilagar Tidal police station, and Velpandi a notorious rowdy of Anna Puttuthoppu on February seven.

Hyderali, who came to the city, was returning with the cash after selling banana leaves, when he was attacked, police said. Hyderali, who suspected the duo, lodged a complaint. Both were arrested and remanded to judicial custody last night, police said.
