The army on Thursday evening claimed that it killed two infiltrators on the Line of Control (LoC) in an ongoing operation in North Kashmir’s Kupwara district, more than 100 km away from Srinagar.
A Srinagar-based army spokesman said that an attempt of infiltration by heavily armed militants was made in Tangdhar Sector. “Two infiltrators were eliminated in an operation that started on July 22 by the vigilant army personnel deployed along the LoC,” he said.
The spokesman said weapons and warlike stores were also recovered from the encounter site. “The bodies of two militants have been recovered however, identification and affiliated tanzeem is yet to be carried out,” he added.
The army said due to the inclement weather, the terrorists took shelter behind the boulders and the intermittent exchange of fire continued on July 22 and 23.
“One army officer and a soldier injured were evacuated to Army Base Hospital, Srinagar,” he said, adding, “The condition of both army personnel is stable.”
Two AK 47 Rifles, two rucksacks and other warlike stores was spotted. “The operation was continuing till last reports,” added the spokesman.
