Two ISI agents held in four months, police on high alert

With the arrests of two ISI agents from Kanpur in the last four months, the city police have been put on high alert to ensure full-proof security during the upcoming festive season of Id, Dushara and Diwali.

On Firday, the Anti Terrorism Squad had arrested an ISI agent Imtiaz Ali who had confessed that he was collecting information to prepare for a terrorist strike in the area during festive season, police said.

Earlier on May 24, the ATS had also arrested another ISI agent Mohammad Wakas, a resident of Lahore in Pakistan, from the city.

The police claimed that they are ready to thwart any terrorist attack during the festive season.

"We are alert and special instructions have been issued to the police stations in sensitive areas", said GL Meena, IG, Kanpur range.

A separate meeting will also be held with all the police officers posted in the sensitive areas, the IG said.

Asked if there is a possibility that more ISI agents working within the city, Meena said "the intelligence team is working in this area but we cannot discuss it with the media as of now".
