Two killed as speeding car jumps off Ghaziabad flyover

Two people were killed and four others injured when a speeding car fell off the Kavi Nagar flyover early Wednesday morning, police said.

They were returning to Ghaziabad after having food at a roadside eatery in Hapur Chungi area of the city.

The incident took place at around 4 am. Police said the car sped across the flyover breaking the railing and landed on the service road adjacent to it.

Two people died on the spot while local residents took four others to a nearby private hospital.

The victims have been identified as Gaurav,20, a resident of Bulandshahr and Narendra, 32, a resident of Firozabad. Gaurav was pursuing his engineering diploma in a polytechnic in Jaipur and Narendra is a farmer.

The driver of the car, Vikki Rana, 21, is a BBA student at a private institute in Pratap Vihar. Others travelling in the car who sustained injuries are Vishal Rana, 23, a B.Com student and a resident of Sarai Basti in Delhi; Naveen Lal, 27, a cloth trader from Pratap Vihar and Vikas Tomar, 20, a BCA student from Morena in Madhya Pradesh.

According to the police, Vikas Tomar and Vishal Rana were referred to GTB hospital in Delhi in a critical condition.

“All the victims are relatives and had come to attend a wedding in Pratap Vihar scheduled to be held on Thursday,” said Salman Taj, superintendent of police (city), Ghaziabad.

“The six decided to go to an eatery at Hapur Chungi at around 3 am to have food. When they were on their way back at around 4 am, the driver lost control over the car on the Kavi Nagar flyover and the car, a Swift Dzire , crashed on the adjoining service road,” he said.

The police said that the car was in a bad condition and it took a lot of effort to pull the passengers out.

“The locals who took the victims to the hospital said that the bodies were stuck inside the car and it took at least 20 minutes to get them out of the car,” said Manish Mishra, circle officer, Kavi Nagar police station.
