Two workers were killed and eight others injured when a boiler at a soft drink plant exploded at Khurda, about 30 km from here, even as police arrested three company officials for the incident on Saturday.
"Three officials of the company's maintenance wing were arrested in connection with the incident which killed two workers and caused injuries to eight others," Inspector In-charge of Khurda police station Bikram Kesari Jena said.
He said those injured in the mishap that took place on Firday were undergoing treatment in Cuttack where the condition of two workers was stated to be serious.
The blast was powerful and factory wall suffered extensive damage under its impact, sources said.
As tension prevailed in the area after the incident, senior officials of district administration of Khurda rushed to the site, official sources said adding company officials were asked to bear the cost of treatment of the injured.
While investigation by the police was on, company officials were also conducting a probe to ascertain the cause of the mishap, Jena said.
Officials of Factories and Boilers Directorate of state government's Labour department were also examining various aspects of the incident, sources said.
