Two killed, five injured in road accident in Mumbai

Two persons, including a five-month-old girl, were killed and five others injured in the wee hours today after a truck ran over them when they were sleeping on a footpath in South Mumbai, police said.

The incident took place behind the Taj hotel at Colaba at about 0135 hours, they said.

The truck lost control and the driver of the truck, Surendra Tahane, has been arrested and taken into custody, they said.

A five-month-old girl, Neerjala Kaley and a 20-year-old woman Rajeshri D'Souza, who were sleeping on the footpath were killed instantly, police said adding the injured were rushed to the nearby St George's hospital for treatment.
