A notorious gangster and a criminal were killed in a shootout between police and unidentified gunmen inside the crowded Sessions Court premises here this morning, police said.

Gangster Hardutt, who was to be produced before Additional District Session Judge RC Geodora in connection with a murder case, was killed when assailants opened fire at him in the presence of scores of people and policemen.

He was killed on the spot.
