Two Maoists were killed and two others injured in an encounter with security forces in the Tandimetla forest near Motu, about 100 km from Malkangiri on Friday, police said.

The security forces, comprising CRPF and armed police, were on a combing operation in the area when the encounter began, the Superintendent of Police Himanshu K Lal said.

It was the naxalites who opened fire at the securitymen who fired back killing two of the ultras.

Two others were injured in the firing who were subsequently captured by the securitymen. They had been brought to nearby MV-79 village, police said.

No securitymen had been injured in the exchange of fire which continued for nearly 30 minutes.

Apparently, the naxalites had assembled there for a meeting when the cops arrived in the area.

The sources said one more naxalite might have been injured in the firing but it could not be immediately confirmed.

The SP and other police officers had rushed to the spot.

Some explosives and 18 kit bags along with some fatigues had been seized by the police from the spot of the encounter, the sources said.
