Two men were allegedly shot at when they resisted a rape attempt on a woman in the Jevar area of Greater Noida, police said on Friday.

“Jaiveer Singh, a resident of Chachula village, has lodged an FIR against Sanju Singh, Dharamvir Singh, Dallu Singh and Karori Mal. He alleged that on Thursday night Sanju entered his house and tried to rape his daughter-in-law when she was alone,” said SC Tomar, DSP (Jevar).

Singh said Sanju’s three companions were outside the house to keep a watch on visitors. “As the woman raised an alarm Jaiveer along with Kishanpal and Attan Singh went to her rescue. Seeing them Sanju’s men fired at them,” Tomar said.

“A bullet hit the abdomen of Kishanpal, while Attan suffered a bullet injury on his leg. Both were rushed to a Bulandshahr hospital. Kishanpal’s condition was stated to be critical, while Attan was stable,” the police said, adding that a case has been registered against all the four accused, who are absconding.

Usha Thakur, a social activist, said crime against women was rising. She said, “The police have launched anti eve-teasing drive in the city. Such initiatives are needed for rural areas too, where atrocities against women are on the rise.”
