Two armed militants were killed on Saturday in an encounter with a joint team of Assam Rifles and state police at Uchiwa Awang Leirak in Manipur’s Imphal West district.
Police said the two militants of an unidentified outfit were killed in the encounter that lasted for about 20 minutes.
There was no casualty among the police or the Assam Rifles personnel, they said.
One AK-56 rifle, a 9mm pistol and some live cartridges were recovered from the spot, police said.
Official sources said acting on a tip off, the forces raided the area, 30 km south east of Imphal, around 3.30 pm. As they stepped up operation, they were fired upon by the militants and in the ensuing encounter the ultras were gunned down.
Over 250 people have been killed so far in militancy-related incidents in Manipur this year, they added.
