Two militants shot dead in Manipur

Two unidentified militants were shot dead in an encounter with security personnel in Imphal west district of Manipur, official sources said on Friday.

Sources said a combined team of police commandos and 39th Assam Rifles battalion personnel raided Tendongyang area under Sekmai police station late on Thursday night following reports of movement of some ultras.

As they stepped up search operation, the militants opened fire at them, sources said adding that in the ensuing encounter two of them were killed.

One 9mm pistol, some rounds of ammunition and a grenade were recovered from the spot, sources said adding that the bodies were sent to Regional Institute of Medical Science and Hospital in Imphal for post mortem and identification.

A total of 60 persons were so far killed in militantcy related incidents in Manipur this year. Last year, over 490 persons were killed in the militancy related crimes in the state.
