Two cadets of the National Defence Academy (NDA) were washed away in flood waters while on a map reading exercise at Donaje village near Khadakwasla in Pune, a senior official said.

Senior cadets AV Bisaria and Adiyta Verma were on a map reading exercise on Monday with two others when they were washed away by gushing flood waters. A search operation was on, Dr Samuel Missal, PRO, NDA, said.

However, the other two cadets swum to safety, he added.

The incident occurred at 11:15 am when they were crossing a causeway.

On hearing the news, NDA Commandant Lt Gen AK Chopra rushed to the spot to supervise the search operation, which was called out in the night and resumed this morning.

Bisaria, who is from Etah in Uttar Pradesh, and Verma, hailing from Allahabad, were sixth term cadets.
