Two functionaries of DMK and Periyar Dravida Kazhagam, detained under NSA for the past one month for allegedly trying to illegally transport Sri Lankan refugees from the union territory to Australia in October, have been released.

Their release from a jail here on Thursday followed representations from the families to the Home Ministry, which issued an order on December 12 to revoke the detention to the territorial government, they said.

DMK Councillor A Sakthivelu of Ariyankuppam commune panchayat and president of PDK's local unit Loku Ayyappan had been detained under NSA.
