Two of the seven men who allegedly gang-raped a 17-year-old girl in Malad (East) on March 16, were arrested by the Kurar police recently. The police said four of the seven accused raped the girl while three others stood with them.

The Kurar police said the girl is a school dropout and lives at Shanti Nagar slums in Malad (East) with her parents.

The police said on March 16, while her parents were away, the victim was standing outside her house when the accused allegedly arrived in autorickshaws, forced her into one and took her to a nearby jungle at Appapada.

The girl told the police that four of the seven men took turns to rape her while three others stood with them.

After a local NGO learnt about the incident, they approached the family and a complaint of gang rape was registered against the seven accused with the Kurar police on March 25.

“The girl was acquainted with the accused as they live in her locality at Shanti Nagar. They are all aged between 20 and 25 years and do odd jobs for a living. We have been able to catch two of them on the basis of descriptions provided by the victim. The five others should be caught soon,” said an officer from the Kurar police, adding that he could not reveal the identities of the accused so as not to hamper police investigations. The police said the girl was sent for a medical test, the report of which is awaited.

She has been sent to the Dongri Children’s Shelter.
