Two persons have been shot dead allegedly by gunmen belonging to insurgent groups in Manipur's Chandel district, official sources said on Thursday.
Ipham Amir Khan (30) and Achom Romen Singh (27) were found murdered with bullet injuries on their bodies, at a place near border town of Moreh, about 120 kms south-east of Imphal on Wednesday.
A spokesman of five insurgent organisations -- United National Liberation Front (UNLF), Revolutionary People's Party (RPF), Kanglei Yawol Kann Lup (KYKL), People's Revolutionary Party of Kangleipak (PREPAK) and Kangleipak Communist Party (KCP)- said that the two were shot dead by them.
He told local media that a joint investigation team of the five organisations found that Khan and Singh were involved in the rape and killing of a saleswoman identified as L Mate at her own shop at Moreh town on January 23.
The victims, he claimed, were paraded before local media persons on Wednesday morning and had accepted accusation levelled against them.
Sources said the bodies were taken to Regional Institute of Medical Science and Hospital here for autopsy.
