Additional Judge S K Singh sentenced Hanif to seven years of imprisonment and also imposed a fine of Rs 15,000 on him.

According to prosecution officer Rajiv Kumar, Hanif was married to Shaina in 1985. Soon after their marriage, he demanded Rs one lakh as dowry.
