Two separatists were gunned down in an encounter with security forces in Tripura on Saturday, the police said.
A police spokesman said two militants of the outlawed National Liberation Front of Tripura (NLFT) were gunned down in an encounter near Birganj village, 90 kms south of capital Agartala.
"There was a counter-insurgency operation going on in the area when security personnel came under fire from the tribal guerrillas and they retaliated, leading to this incident," police spokesman Nepal Das said.
Some arms and ammunition were recovered from the dead rebels. Some of the militants escaped.
